We wanted to encourage people to socially distance and to generally have good practice in quarantine.

What it does

It's a platformer game where you try to keep your distance from monsters by jumping onto platforms.

How I built it

We built the game using pygame. We also used assets from the Unity Game Store for the game art, and used Adobe Illustrator/Adobe fonts to create the menu text and buttons.

Challenges I ran into

The most difficult part of the project was implementing the physics needed to jump and land on platforms.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I was especially proud of the fact that I got the game to randomly spawn platforms as well as monsters.

What I learned

Although I had experience with python before I had never used pygame before coding this game, so I learned a lot about pygame and game development in general!

What's next for Distance Yourself

The game currently utilizes assets from the Unity store. We instead want to design our own customizable characters and background environment. Furthermore we plan to code a Javascript wrapper for the PyGame so that the game can be played right from the browser! Yes, you heard it right, no additional installations required. Leaderboards, social logins are also some of the upcoming features.
