We try to get essential resources like water, food, and hand sanitizer in our neighborhood during the current Corona Virus Epidemic. We want to create a specialized communication mean for our neighbors and community to get resources and necessities.

What it does

Epidemic Hub is a platform for communities to offer help and identify the best or worst places to find currently scarce resources. The users will select their location resources stores (like Walmart, CVS, etc), and then they will voluntarily rate the availability of certain items in the store (like food, water, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper). The users' votes/inputs will be updated to our cloud server and become available for the entire community to see. As a result, if someone wants to check out a store near them and use our app to see the store's rating by the community, he/she will quickly know the availability of the resources that he/she wants before going to the actual store. Vice versa, the users can veto any misleading information on the availability of resources and help to correct the rating system. Thus, the next person will receive the benefit of using our rating system. On top of the rating system, people can communicate with each other to verify any information on the resources via the free chat message of the app.

How I built it

We create a cloud API via using node.js, MongoDB, and AWS to store users' information. We create a mobile app that can read, write, and update the users' input into our cloud server.

Challenges I ran into

One of the biggest challenges that we ran into is to finish the application in the time frame of the competition. We have many ideas and potential features for the app but we could not implement them at this moment. However, we definitely integrate them into our next release of the app.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We completed the iOS mobile application version with all the main functional features. We successfully launched the beta version to Testflight on Apple Store and made the app available for internal and public testing.

What I learned

We learned how to collaborate and build something together with teamwork effort. We shared so much technical knowledge during this journey together.

What's next for Epidemic Hub

We will integrate the Forum Tab in the app.  We will improve our authentification process for our users.  We will add more local stores and hoping the community help us to make this app accessible with nationwide stores.
We will convert/clone this specialized communication mean in a web app and android devices.
