Inspiration

One of the biggest challenges that governments face when fighting against pandemics such as COVID-19 is checking the health status of their citizens regularly while in quarantine. Moreover, keeping track of the people's gatherings during the pandemic is difficult.
According to WHO, as of the submission date of this project, no single case has been reported to have COVID-19 in our country, Republic of Yemen; and thus, we want to prevent the disease from spreading in this crucial period by facilitating the health check-ins processes and by alarming nearby people to practice social distancing from those who have the symptoms of COVID-19.

What it does

Our solution helps to divide the population into groups and sub-groups. Each group has a supervisor. A supervisor may be a teacher, an employer or etc. For example, the school may create a group, all teachers have to sign up in that group. The teachers create sub-groups, and each student has to sign up in his teacher's sub-group. Then, the app asks the students to update their health status regularly. If someone has COVID-19 symptoms, the app sends an alarm to all group members and supervisors so that they practice social distancing.  One of the services that the app provides is that it tracks the gathering of people. For instance, when two students meet, one of them can the QR code generated by the app of the other student, and then the app records the date and time of their meeting. This would be of great help in tracking the people that one student had met in case he/she got COVID-19.

How we built it

We divided the team into the following sub-teams:  1- System Analysis team: We have conducted the feasibility study and collected the vital functional and non-functional requirements for the system to operate. We also designed some prototypes to simulate the desired apps. 2- System Design team: We used MS Visio to build the system diagrams including use-case, class diagram, ERD diagram, and data flow diagram.  3- System Implementation team: We used Java for the Android app and PHP, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript for the web-based app.

Challenges we ran into

The most difficult task was gathering and leading the team members. Also, validating the software requirements was difficult due to the short amount of time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have built a comprehensive document for the system in just 2 days, and we have started the implementation process.

What we learned

We learned that with teamwork and collaboration, we can achieve the desired goal in such a short amount of time.

What's next for Health Check-ins Management and Alarm

We want to use global navigation to nearby groups and check their wellness, this might increase the social distancing practices. In addition, we can collaborate with other teams in this Hackathon to integrate our solutions.
