Heres the whole story
The app that we created for the Quaranteam category is called Isolation Station. The past two weeks in quarantine have been very boring, since we’ve been stuck at home. Isolation Station gives people an opportunity to try new activities that they may not have thought of before. This is especially important when considering that this is a stressful and worrisome time, which can have a negative effect on a person’s mental health and wellbeing. Isolation Station allows people to take a break from the news and any other stress in their life and focus on expanding their horizons by trying new activities from the comfort of their home.
What it does
When the user first opens the app, they are greeted with a list of potential new hobbies for them to try. When the user decides what they are interested in, they can click on the hobby to get started. They will be provided with a specific activity as well as a link with more information. Every hobby has a variety of activities and when the user clicks on one hobby, they will be given a random activity.
How we built it
We built it on Android Studio with Java and XML.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some challenges with databases and finding efficient ways to store data.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of having a working app as this is the first app we have built.
What we learned
We learned a lot about Android Studio and app development. We also learned the importance of perseverance and trying our best with the abilities we have.
What's next for Isolation Station
We would like to increase the scope of our app and make more activities for users to discover and do. We would also like there to be a way for users to keep track of which activities they already did. There is a lot more to do with this project and we are excited to continue learning!
