Our project is intended to follow the "Community" track. We were inspired to make this project after seeing many people, especially our peers, not take the social distancing guidelines set by the government and organizations such as the CDC seriously. We strongly believe that social distancing is an essential part of containing the spread of Covid-19 and keeping our communities healthier in the long run, which is why our project is centered around this cause.
What it does
We have created a website with a social media infrastructure to get others involved with our cause. Our main method of doing this is through our own monthly meme competition, where people are encouraged to make and share their own memes that promote social distancing with #sdcv19. All of the memes posted under our hashtag will be featured on our website. Each month, two memes will be chosen as the winners and its creators will be sent free stickers from us. Our website also includes a fun social distancing themes mini-game and a resource section with information that will make social distancing easier from the CDC and other reputable organizations.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
Our main challenge of this project was coordinating while we were all in self-isolation. Initially it was a bit difficult to communicate with each other and get things done due to our different schedules but we were all able to work together and cooperate along the way. It also took some time for us to figure out the logistics of our project and how we were going to get people involved and what incentive we should place.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team is mainly proud of the fact that we were able to get our unique and interactive website up and running. We are also proud of our steady social media following we were able to gain within the past couple of days and the amount of dank social distancing memes we made.
What's next for Social? Distancing
We plan to continue our campaign throughout the duration of this pandemic in hopes that it will lead to more people actually practicing social distancing. Before we proceed, we plan on designing and making our own stickers to send out to the winners of the meme competition.
